August 2nd-3rd

As promised, details from our trip last week.....

We flew into Orange County and drove down to San Diego on I-5 and then cut over to the Pacific Coast Highway so we could stop for lunch at the 101 Cafe. It's a small diner on the old highway that has been there since 1928. They serve up the BEST burgers and shakes which of course we had to try.

From there we headed south and spent the afternoon on Coronado Island. We walked on the beach and sipped drinks at the bar (mine sans alcohol of course) at the famous Hotel Del Coronado. It was the perfect way to start a trip. We have also decided that when we win the lottery we will be purchasing a bungalow on the beach at the Hotel Del. (I'm thinking not in this lifetime, but one has to have dreams.)

We were exhausted at the end of the day but it was well worth it! On Sunday we woke up (around 5:15am thanks to the time change) and were at Sea World when it opened. Jason had never been to a Sea World and there's none better than the one in San Diego.

The sea lions were our absolute favorite! You could buy raw fish and feed it to them over the glass. They would swim up and stand on their tails as tall as they could and bark at you until you threw them a fish. We were highly entertained and so wished Dakota was there with us. She would have had a fit!

We headed to the ocean for lunch and sat out by the water while we ate. So beautiful. Then we headed to La Jolla for the afternoon. We window shopped while eating our gelato and were amazed at the number of people in La Jolla! It was packed, but then I guess August is high tourist season. We then headed out through La Jolla stopping at Torrey Pines so Jason could see the course and pick up an authentic US Open shirt. We had tried to get a tee time for him over 2 months ago but they were already booked. Guess we'll have to take another trip back to SoCal so he can actually play the course!

After our scenic view of Torrey Pines we headed a little further north into Del Mar where we met up with Jason's cousin Katie for dinner. She took us to the yummiest restaurant right on the beach where we watched the sunset. It was good food, good view, and good company! We LOVED spending the evening with you, Katie, and we LOVE your new place!

Whew! That ended our first 2 days....more to come........

Jason and Lindsay, Loved that first pic of the wedding and also following your travels through San Diego! I was there in March when Katie and I hiked Torrey Pines with wildflowers in bloom, it's the pic on my desktop now! Makes me want to book that flight to visit again and see Katie and those poochies :) Great pics, you both look so very happy! Love,A.Eileen
