It's a....

So I am going to make you read this whole thing before I make the big reveal so skim to the bottom if you don't want the details. The sonogram was perfect today with the sonographer having a good view of all the major organs and developmental markers. We were thrilled that baby Saf is healthy and growing right along. An answer to many, many prayers!

Then, instead of having the sonographer tell us the sex of the baby as I lay on the table with goop all over my stomach and my dress up around my armpits (not glamorous at all), we decided to have her write it down on a card and seal the envelope for us to open later at a more glamorous local. :) So Jason took me to Cafe on the Green at the Four Seasons resort. The staff was wonderful especially when they found out what was happening and all came over to take pictures for us. The chef even made us a unique, specially designed dessert at the end of our meal. We had a great time! So, here's a look at our evening in pictures. Look closely at the one where we're holding up the card the sonographer filled in for us. :)

IT'S A BOY (a.k.a. He Saf)! And we are totally thrilled!!!! But we are having a hard time believing we are half way through this pregnancy and will have a son in just a few short months!

The Suspense Continues.....

I know that some of you are aware that we were scheduled to have our 20 week sonogram tomorrow that, among other important things, would hopefully tell us if we need to start buying blue or pink. I hate to disappoint, but I got a message today that my doctor will be in surgery tomorrow so we have to reschedule. Hopefully we'll be able to find a time this week between our work schedules and the sonographer and MD's work schedules where we can get this done before Friday. You'll just have to keep checking back and I promise to post after the sonogram (which I'm thinking will probably be on Thursday afternoon). I guess the suspense continues. :)

Dallas to New York to Chicago

Whew! What a whirlwind week we had last week! We flew in to New York on Wednesday for Jason's brother Jesse's graduation from Darien High School. Despite late flights and rain for an outside graduation ceremony we saw Jess walk across the stage in fine form as well as participate in a very fun musical performance during the ceremony! WAY TO GO, JESSE! We know you'll LOVE CU Boulder!


Thursday we had a relaxing day at Jason's parents house in Connecticut. We took the boat out and had lunch on the water. The weather was perfect and it was so good to see Jason's Grampa and his grandmother, Gram, who flew in from Wisconsin for Jesse's graduation.








On Friday morning we were up early headed to New York to catch a flight to Chicago to begin the weekend celebration of Gram's 80th birthday! All the Safrans were there. Gram's 5 kids, 17 grandkids plus a few in-laws, and even 2.5 great grandkids (Baby Saf being the .5). Despite late flights (again) and rain (again) we made it for the first pitch of the Cubs v. Sox game at Wrigley field. The Safran clan is fairly split down the middle Cubs fans v. Sox fans but the Cubbies pulled it off on Friday with an exciting home run in the 9th to win 4-3. (Turns out the Cubs swept the Sox this past weekend making my hubby VERY happy.) And we finally bought something for Baby Saf. I know, it's kind of weird that we haven't bought him/her anything yet but I think we're just waiting to find out if it's a He Saf or a She Saf. Anyway, our first purchase was a pair of Cubs footie PJ's. Uncle Craig, are you proud? :) Then Saturday was the "official" birthday party with lunch at a restaurant in the Chicago area followed by dessert and games at Jason's Uncle Tom and Auntie LIsa's house. A great time was had by all! Here are a few pics of the weekend.

Father-To-Be Day

So Dakota and I got up early this morning before church to fix our Daddy-To-Be breakfast in bed. Dakota could not quite understand why she wasn't allowed to go pounce on her papa and wake him up but she soon settled down and helped me fix breakfast. After our breakfast in bed we let Jason open up his gifts, one of which was a book to add to Baby Saf's library called "Me and My Dad." Jason tried it out on Dakota but she wasn't too into it. She's not really much of a reader. One of many things we hope Baby Saf does not pick up from her. :)

A very happy Father's Day to all of our sweet dads, uncles, granddads, and papa friends! We hope your day is extra special!

Happy Father's Day Weekend/Flag Day

We've celebrated Father's Day a little early this year. We took my Dad to dinner last night since he is on his way to Louisiana today to spend Father's Day with his dad and this morning we took Baby Saf's GREAT granddad to breakfast at one of our favorite places on Lake Grapevine.....Little Pete's! It was just cool enough to eat breakfast on the patio this morning but it's going to be a HOT day here in Texas so it's a good thing we went early. Have you ever seen such a good looking 90 year old?! (Of course tomorrow we'll celebrate Father's Day with Baby Saf's daddy.) :)



Happy Flag Day today! We put our flag out front this morning. Dad always knows all the holidays you are supposed to put your flag out so I guess we're following suit! Just one good habit picked up from a very special dad. :)

The Cool Saf Comes To Visit

We were so excited to have Jason's dad (a.k.a. The Cool Saf) come visit us tonight from Connecticut. He's in town to meet with some NFL people but was nice enough to come to Grapevine for dinner with us tonight. Dakota thinks her Grandpa Saf is the coolest and definitely lives up to his name!

Baby Saf's 1st Big Kick

This has been a very good baby Saf week! We have gone 4 nights straight without getting sick and at exactly 4pm today I felt baby Saf kicking the heck out of my stomach! I called Jason at work to tell him it was happening right then and we were so disappointed he wasn't here to feel it. Yes, that's how hard this little 1 ounce baby was kicking. I could feel it on the outside of my stomach. Uncle Josh, look out....you may have some soccer competition in the next few years. :)

Miles for Melanoma Fundraiser

This is not really baby Saf related but I wanted to let you all know about the 3rd annual Miles for Melanoma walk that is happening this month in Coppell. Many of you supported us last year as we walked to raise money for research specifically in the area of melanoma for the MD Anderson clinic in Houston. Unfortunately we are not able to walk this year as we will be in Chicago celebrating Jason's grandmother's 80th birthday (and we're so thrilled to get to celebrate with all the family) but my parents will be doing the walk and we want to encourage anyone who's interested to participate. It is a free event with the hope that each person or family who walks will get at least $50 in donations. It really is a worthy cause and the family who sponsors it knows first hand the impact a melanoma diagnosis can have on a family as they lost their 27 year old son to melanoma a few years ago.

I have included the information below but there is also a link to the foundation's website to the right on our blog page called "Melanoma Foundation." If you would like to make a financial contribution but are not able to join the walk, feel free to send it directly to us and we will see that it gets to the event coordinators or see the website for details. (You can mail in a donation or make one online from the website.) There is a registration form on the website but you can also register the morning of the walk. It's a really fun event with good prizes at the end, too!
