Lil Saf Remains a Mystery

They didn't have the portable ultrasound today at the doctor's office so Lil Saf didn't even get a chance to show off his/her stuff. We did however hear a healthy heartbeat and got an excellent report for Mom and Baby from Dr. Cowen. So, we'll have to wait until next month for the big reveal! :)

We spent a beautiful morning out on lake Grapevine today. Craig and Jessie were able to join us before they headed back to Austin and we enjoyed breakfast on the boat and a liesurely tour of the lake (until the breakdown but that's another story and all turned out fine). So Lil Saf had his/her first boat ride and so did Dakota! I hope Lil Saf loved it as much as Dakota did because that pooch had a GREAT time. Her papa was so proud of her first attempt at swimming too. Her mama was just glad she could float (I had a doggie life vest just in case).

We go for our 16 week sonogram tomorrow. We're a little hopeful we might find out if we're having a 'He Saf' or a 'She Saf', but it will all depend on how cooperative Lil Saf is while on the big screen. If not, we'll know by the end of June for sure. So cast your vote before it's too late!

Prayer for Steven Curtis Chapman and Family

Most of us have heard his music and although I cannot profess to being a Steven Curtis Chapman groupie, I felt this family who has worked so faithfully in furthering the Kingdom of Christ could use all the prayer they can get.


Christian music fans are expressing their sympathy for Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman after the death of his 5-year-old daughter in an accident Wednesday in the family's driveway.

Maria Sue Chapman was struck by a car driven by one of her teenage brothers, according to authorities in Franklin, Tenn., who added they believe no charges will result from what they termed "a tragic accident."

The child died 10 days after her fifth birthday. Chapman's manager, Jim Houser, also noted in a Web site posting the family had been hours away from hosting a high school graduation party for their son Caleb when the accident occurred.

Maria was the youngest of three Chinese girls the family had adopted, two of them through the the Nashville, Tenn., office of Bethany Christian Services. Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth, also have three biological children -- two teenage sons and a 21-year-old daughter.

Baby Practice

I got in one more visit with Emily and Brooks yesterday before they headed back to Maryland this afternoon. It was some good baby practice although we will be very happy and very lucky parents if Lil Saf is even half as delightful as Mr. Brooks Andrew Kenton.

And to add to the fun, I also got in a good visit with Emily's mom, Sheils (as Em calls her) and Baylor friend, Fran! It was so good to see you ladies....and gentleman. Safe travels to the Maryland crew and come back to Texas soon!

Lil Saf's 1st Wedding Shower

So after a HUGE graduation weekend celebration we topped it off with a couples shower honoring Craig and Jessie last night. What a great party my parent's friends put on! WOW! It was all so lovely and Jason and I had such a good time seeing so many old friends. A BIG THANK YOU to all the lovely hostesses who worked so hard to pull off such a beautiful event. You are all so special to our family! And we were especially thrilled that Jessie's mom and Aunt Linda were able to postpone their return trip to California to stick around for the shower. So glad you both were there!

Graduation Weekend....Hook 'Em Horns!

My little brother graduated from law school this weekend so we all headed to Austin for graduation weekend. Can't believe we actually have a lawyer in the family now but I guess that could come in handy. :) The lawyer jokes have already started, but Craig we truly are so proud of you and know that this was a huge accomplishment and three years of hard work. Congratulations!

Craig's fiance, Jessie, ALSO graduated from UT with her master's degree this weekend and we had a great time celebrating with her family as well. All these smart people and their post-graduate degrees...makes for a lot of overjoyed parents that these kids are finally finished with school! :) We're so happy for you Jessie and had such a great weekend with you and your family!

Fun With Friends

Today was such a fun day spending time with two of my sweet Baylor friends and their kids. Rosemond (who I never see despite the fact that she lives 20 miles from me) and her daughter, Grace, met us for lunch and then came over to play dress-up. And my best friend, Emily, who lives in Maryland, flew in yesterday with her 4 month old son, Brooks, and spent the day with us today.

Brooks sure has grown since I saw him last and he is such a happy, smiley baby just like his mama. I bet his papa, Seth, is missing him already! And Grace and I had the best time playing dress-up. Ro, you have quite the girly-girl. I love it!

Happy Mother's Day

Jason was very sweet and woke me up this morning for my first and only "mother-to-be" Mother's day. To mark the occasion he had bought a baby booty charm with "mother-2-be" engraved on the bottom. So thoughtful. :)

Also included in my pink gift bag this morning was a baby name book called "The Baby Name Wizard" by Laura Wattenberg. As some of you know we had major problems even picking out our dog's name. There were several tense moments and possibly even a few fights along the way. All was settled amicably and we decided on a name we both liked but it was rough getting there.

So we've been a bit nervous at the thought of having to name a human if naming a dog was so hard. Hopefully this book is going to help. We've looked through it some already and it actually gives you some guidance to "finding the perfect name for your baby." We'll see if Laura Wattenberg is really a wizard and can help us come up with a name without starting World War III! :)

We'd also like to wish some very special people a very happy Mother's Day! Technology Ready

So I'm thinking bottles, diapers, cribs... all the things you need for a new baby. But papa is on a little different train of thought. I mean how can one bring a baby into the world in this day and age without a digital camera you can easily take anywhere, an HD camcorder (because heaven forbid your little one's every move is captured in STANDARD definition when HIGH definition is available), and of course, (as our newest purchase shows) one must enter into the Mac world so you can stitch all of those cool high def home movies together in a masterpiece worthy of big screen reviews and possibly an Oscar nomination. So, I think we are now completely ready for Lil' Saf's arrival...in high definition no less.

Obviously this is a bit "tongue-in-cheek" but yes, we have become "Mac people" as of this weekend with our new purchase of a MacBook. Jason is very excited. Our first trial run in using all the cool movie features will be for my brother Craig's rehearsal dinner in August. Jason has high hopes that with this MacBook, Craig and Jessie's rehearsal dinner video will be the video of the century. I'll let you know when it hits a theater near you....

In all seriousness though, I know I joke a lot but what a sweet papa to think of all the things we'll need to chronicle Lil' Saf's life. Jason really is so thoughtful and this is a great way he can contribute in preparing for a new baby. So cute.

"Surviving the 1st Trimester" Party

Mom (or Gigi as she is soon to be called) threw us a lovely luncheon yesterday in celebration of surviving the first trimester. We are officially past the first 12 weeks but I'm still waiting for the day when I will wake up and feel good. The nausea is better than a couple of weeks ago but we're still battling it most evenings now. Ugh. I'm told it will all be worth it in the end, though. :)

Thanks, Mom, for the fun luncheon yesterday and for Lil' Saf's gifts. Lil' Saf got some very cute socks and a fun rattle from Aunt Jenn and Uncle Josh and a darling little fuzzy lamb that makes all kinds of soothing sounds from Gigi and my dad (who has yet to pick out a "grandpa sounding" name). Dakota is IN LOVE with the lamb and is convinced that it should be for her. We're having to keep it out of her reach! And great-grandparents, Mimi and Grandaddy, got mama some good smelling Mama Mio Tummy Rub for those pesky stretch marks. The directions state you should "baste yourself like a Thanksgiving turkey." So, here's to basting! Thanks for a fun afternoon everyone! Lil' Saf sure does have a great family!
