Stats

We went several weeks ago for our 12 month check up with Dr. G. She said Grant weighs 18.6 lbs. (3rd percentile) and is 30.5 inches (50th percentile). We've pretty much stayed in these same percentiles since he was 3 months old. He's good and healthy though and we've all gotten all our flu shots...seasonal and swine. No flu in our house this year (or so we hope).

Grant is saying quite a few words...

Nite-Nite
Uh-Oh
Mama
Doggie
Kak-kak (in response to the question..."What does the duck say?")

And it may have taken him 11 months and 3 weeks to get any teeth but he now has 2 on the bottom and his 2 pointy incisors (a.k.a. vampire teeth) came in just in time for Halloween. :)

Grant is walking all over the place. He's really gotten good at the walking stuff just in the last week. And I will admit that we don't baby-proof the house. Please don't call CPS though. I have at least locked up the household cleaners so he can't get ahold of those. We very much subscribe to the fact that the world is not baby-proofed so he's gotta learn sometime. We'll see in the coming months if we can keep that up. I have a feeling there will come a time when I'm going to want my kitchen cabinets locked up so pots and pans aren't strewn all over our house. :)

We are not big on "developmental milestones" in this house either. My philosophy is no kid ever goes to college in a diaper and drinking from a bottle nor is intelligence or life success in any way related to how soon your child sits, walks, etc. We want Grant to do his thing in his and God's timing, but this at least gives you an idea of what he's doing. And as God would have it, turns out he's pretty average for these milestones even though he came to us a month earlier than expected. All to the glory of God!

Here are some fun pictures that Becca, Grant's teacher, took this week. She graciously came and spent the day with Grant on Wednesday as I had to be gone all day. I'm thinking he has way too much fun with Ms. Becca! :)

And I can't end this post today without a very big GO FROGS! We will be at the game this afternoon! :)

What a great update!! Sounds like he's doing some serious walking-and-talking! And you know I'm ALL ABOUT the laid-back child-rearing philosophy so YAY for that, too!

Fabulous blog about a fabulous little man! We didn't baby-proof anything either, and Grace somehow made it to 5 (well, almost!)...

love seeing grant's smile! don't you just love it? i also love that you're counting his words...seems like it's always in the back of my mind. dern that dr. ritter!

i, too, maintain that emory will not go to kindergarten with a bottle, and if she does....well, she won't go to 1st grade with one. ;) she's quite addicted (truly) to bottles. oops.

we have slowly babyproofed almost everything. kinda funny that you can tell the sequence of babyproofing b/c there are about 3 different types of latches in the house...one type for each phase. :) i was sooo tired of spending 30 minutes many times a day to clean up all the things she pulled out of drawers and cabinets. i've finally given up b/c she now pushes a kitchen chair to the countertops and climbs from the chair to the counter. guess it's time to get rid of the chairs?? or just move and start over??

loved the update on grant! hope y'all are well.

great update on little grant! we've never babyproofed the cabinets and drawers. my mom taught me that if you give him one cabinet he's allowed to play with, they can learn which cabinet is their's and which one's are yours. it works great. we let our boys play with the plastic mixing bowls and they leave the other cabinets alone. of course, you have to expect to clean up that 'cabinet' each day.
