Baylor Homecoming 2009

We did it! Up at 5:30am (on a Saturday no less) only to hit I-35 by 6:15am decked out in our green and gold and headed to Waco for Baylor Homecoming. We have gone every year except last year and I feel like we had a good excuse for missing it last year seeing as Grant was only 2 weeks old and I was feeling like I'd been hit by a bus....over and over again. :)

But we made it this year and we did it up right! We hit up the Zeta breakfast at 8:00 and then headed over to the parade with friends where we watched the the band and the floats go by as we chatted with more friends. We got us some YUMMY Dr. Pepper floats at Dr. Pepper Hour (very nice touch Mr. Burchett) and headed to the Baylor Bookstore to pick up a few BU t-shirts. We introduced Grant to the real Baylor Bears over at the bear pit and then we met up with our friends Rachel and Travis (minus Audrey that day) for lunch in the SUB. We headed over the stadium with the Carpenters after lunch for the football game. Grant was a SUPER TROOPER and did awesome the whole day. He LOVED it all but man was he pooped out by game time. He slept through the 1st quarter but woke up and tried to cheer the Bears on for the 2nd and 3rd quarter before we headed home.

Oh, what a fun time! I LOVE Homecoming and I LOVE that we were able to introduce Grant to the traditions and friendships that Baylor so relentlessly fosters. I think the quote from former Baylor President Samuel Palmer Brooks says it best:
"Will you not, as a loyal student of dear old Baylor, lay aside for a few days the usual cares of life, come back to your alma mater, renew former associations and friendships, and catch that Baylor spirit again?"

"Because of what Baylor has meant to you in the past, because of what she will mean to you in the future, oh, my students, have a care for her."

Sic 'Em, Bears!

So cute! You even "flung your green and gold afar" and went to the game. You guys are troopers!
